The first thing you need to do is to fill out an adoption application. There are two methods available for this: online or via the mail.  Please fill out the application in its entirety, failing to do so will slow down the adoption process. If you have a particular dog in mind, please make sure the dog's name is included on the application.

We encourage you to email or call the dog's foster home to find out as much information about the dog as possible. The foster home will also be able to answer any questions you have concerning a particular dog. Keep in mind that our Bassets are not kept in one central location. Each is living with a foster family so it may not be possible for you to visit with the dog prior to adoption. Please ask the specific dog's foster home if this is possible. If you don't know what dog you might want, submit the application, and we will assist you in your decision. Please remember adoptions will not happen overnight. OMBR's only interest is in the safety and well-being of the Bassets in our care. We will take every step possible to ensure these Bassets are adopted to loving forever homes.

Once your application has been received, an OMBR representative will contact you and do a brief interview. Any references given may be contacted to verify disclosures on any past or present animal you are/were responsible for. In the event of a renting situation, the landlord will be contacted and required to submit verbal or written confirmation allowing the pet to live in the household.

An OMBR representative will also do a home visit to see what kind of environment a Basset would be going into, and to also get to know you and your other pets better. Once references are verified and a home visit completed, we will assist you in choosing a hound that will fit in well with your family and existing pets.
